Eating the Screen
“The basic ingredient is the image. Let’s call it a diamond. An uncut diamond already gives off light, but improves when polished. Griffith cut facets into the diamond. It has the integrity of one element. The arrival of sound makes two elements. Sound and image. The basic ingredients are easy to grasp. In ceramics you’ve got clay and glaze. You fire it up in a kiln and ceramics emerge. The result is a new integrated element. The crisis in film is that so few have achieved this fusion. The only filmmaker who managed to do it was Vigo.”
-Henri Langlois from Le Fantôme d'Henri Langlois
Vigo's fusion:
A project of mine that's been in the works and plans for almost two years now will hopefully be unveiled on this here blod in the next month. I'll be posting a podcast of a mix of music from film with sometimes either a theme or with an accompanied spoken word history/trivia/connection of the chosen pieces. (This will probably depend on how much time I have at first!) This will be a work in progress, so please bear with me.
You have to wait about 45 seconds to get through the gay host intro, but here's more Vigo:

Bext of 2007: Film
It’s that time of year when everyone is sharing their best of 2007’s. So first off, my top ten movies that I saw (not necessarily released) in two thousand seven. As many of you may or may not know, a substantial amount of my time and *little* money go to watching movies. But, I wasn’t able to see everything I’d have like to due to; geographical location, said time, and said money. It’s possible I may have forgotten gems of my early 2007 past, but this will do for now.
My bext Flicks of 2007:
1. There Will Be Blood
2. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
3. No Country For Old Men
4. Mouchette
5. Manufactured Landscapes
6. Maya Deren Short Films
7. Hot Fuzz
8. The Lives of Others
9. I am Curious Yellow/Blue
10. Sunshine
I didn’t get to see these before the clock stroke midnight, but I have a feeling one or more of these would have been on this list. Still looking forward to them in 08’:
Czech Dream-
“CZECH DREAM, a documentary-comedy, had an impact on the real lives of many Czech people. On the last day of May 2003, thousands of people gathered on a field in a Prague quarter called Letnany because an advertising campaign for a hypermarket promised them unbelievably low prices. However, the crowd merely found itself standing in front of a linen faćade, not a real hypermarket. This "friendly hoax" was a part of the project of two film students, Vit Klusak and Filip Remunda. These two filmmakers had ordered a leading advertising company to coordinate a promotional campaign for a nonexistent product: a hypermarket. Their goal was to document how a credible advertising campaign can be effective even if its product is not based on reality. This funny and alarming movie takes a close look at advertising professionals, film directors, psychologists, analysts, Czech celebrities, hypermarket directors, and consumers in the context of the tempting world of consumption that most of us are captured by everyday. A new year, a new blod. My first blod! Slightly personal/more ethereal. I promise to be a ray of positivity, an honest abe, a reliable opinion, and a Forsythe of my own existence. I am shaking off 2007; the worst year of my life, and the year that yielded the least amount of creativity to date. My first podcast of a project I've been working on for some time will come soon, but I'll explain that later. I’ll probably be hovering in 2007 for the next couple of posts, so sit back and relax then it’s off to the races of 08’!
